We specialise in Traditional Lion Dance from Guandong and Hong Kong, characterised by its strong movements and martial attitude. The lion comprises two people, the head and the tail, and requires great skill to move in a lifelike manner. The lion dance is the result of a close collaboration between the musicians and lion to create a seamless and entertaining performance.
Training for Lion Dance involves learning patterns as well as improvisations, percussion instruments (drum, gong, cymbals), and some acrobatics. The training compliments our martial training as it develops a firm foundation as well as explosive movements from the upper body.
The Lion Dance can be seen in many different types of events, see below. Our large dragon is usually used for larger events such as street parades. Traditionally, the Lion Dance was something that the Kung Fu school would provide for the community to which it belonged.
Lunar New Year
The lion dance is most regularly performed during Chinese New Year celebrations, often in stores and restaurants to promote good luck for the year to come. We also play in schools, universities, and street parades!
Weddings
Usually involving two lions, one for each person getting married, we add a lot of colour, fun and energy to weddings!
Restaurants & Businesses
Whether its for Lunar New Year, a new restaurant opening, or a business celebration, a lion dance is a great way to celebrate!
Parades & Gala Days
Parades can be for a variety of occasions: Lunar New Year, Summer galas, we’ve even performed for Christmas light parades!
Dragon Dance
For bigger events and parades, our nine-person dragon is 25 metres long if stretched out to full length!
