Sifu Conrad Barrett-Freeman, 5th Dan, began training under Sifu Thomas Stefanou in September 2005. When his Sifu moved away in 2009, Conrad was the most senior student and became the chief instructor in Edinburgh in order to keep the school open. The school grew considerably and he was able to move into full-time premises in 2011.
Wanting to deepen his knowledge, he began learning directly under Grandmaster Yee Chi Wai in 2012 and now regularly visits China for detailed instruction on Hung Ga Kung Fu, Lion Dance, Dragon Dance, Medicine and Philosophy. He became a Yap Moon (In The Door) disciple of the lineage in June 2014.
After learning the Traditional Lion Dance in Taishan Guangdong, Conrad re-invigorated the lion dance culture in the UK Yee’s Hung Ga community. The lion and dragon dance team is now very popular, performing all over Scotland throughout the year.
He has taken groups to China on several occasions, to train, visit famous places, and participate in the World Hung Kuen Association’s International Hung Kuen competitions, where he and his students have won medals in forms and fighting events.
